Jennifer Webb, Artist in residence at Port Art , has been consistently creating paintings of Melbourne city, portraying various water views around Melbourne CBD since her nostalgic return from living outside of Australia. Seeing Melbourne through new eyes renewed her long-term endearment to the city as a source of inspiration in her paintings. Other beautiful cities have since been explored in her water-view-laden Skyline artworks. The artist often accepts commissions of Melbourne or other favourite city skylines. Throughout the last 15 years, the skylines have gradually evolved and developed into her “ Rectangularist” signature style. The Melbourne skylines (along with other City skylines) still inspire but the scenes have been stripped back and reinterpreted into their most basic and essential shapes. These studies in implied line, form and colour have very little of the figurative detail of her previous Skyline paintings, but all of the textures, ambience and mood with hints of recognisable landmarks as subtle yet significant focal points. Water views take precedence in most of her favourite city tableaux.
Other subjects appear in her series, including a long-term ocean series and also figures). READ MORE about the artist.(see more favourite cities that are painted during travels. Commissions of any series in the artist's signature style can be discussed here.
