Artists who choose mixed media as an approach within their creative practice generally agree that what they enjoy the most is that it is as unlimited as their imaginations. Some artists constantly push past the boundaries of traditional artistic techniques and practices as they create innovative and captivating combinations of substrates and mediums in their works that lead to unique results, which of course appeal more to discerning viewers.
The phrase 'Mixed Media' has been bandied about for a few decades in more than one context and much of what dominates (under this keyphrase) on platforms such as Etsy, Youtube and the like are the much replicated, reproduced craft-like designs using pre-cut wooden, metallic and other 3D objects. Within the scope of a fine artist's processes, 3D objects may be utilised along with various combinations of substrates, stencils, drawing and painting mediums, however, they are more likely to be unique and devised by the artist themselves to express an idea within a certain series or body of work.
Recycled materials, both natural and synthetic, are more prominent in the diverse medium choices of some of our Port Art collective of artists.
